Writing an ebook can seem like a daunting task, but it really doesn’t have to be that way. With the right information and tools you can easily learn how to create your own ebook and make money selling it.
Here are our top tips to help you get started:
#1 – Start with something you know. The easiest way to write an ebook is to base it on a topic you are familiar with. While it’s possible to write on a variety of niches online, you’re best bet especially when starting out is to create an ebook around a topic you know or at least are interested in. Of course, you’ll want to make sure the topic is also a viable one but you can easily research this by using a tool such as Word Tracker or similar. But if at all possible, write about a topic you are familiar with when getting started.
#2 – Write in plain English. There’s a misconception that you need to be an experienced author to write an ebook, this just isn’t the case. Writing online is very different to traditional methods of writing. Online writing requires a down-to-earth and “plain English” approach. You can easily do this by writing how you speak. Write as though you were chatting to a good friend over coffee. All that really matters here is that your information is valuable and will solve the reader’s problems.
#3 – Record an interview. If you’re unsure about creating a full ebook from scratch, a good option is to record an audio interview with an industry expert in your niche. Then simply have the audio transcribed and sell the transcript and audio as your product. This is very easy to use and it’s a matter of simply contacting local experts until one agrees.
#4 – Record your thoughts. This is a fantastic insider tip to creating fast information products. Some people simply find it easier to speak than to write. If this is you, grab a mini voice recorder and record your thoughts. Once you have your audio you can have it transcribed (or do it yourself). You’ll then have a “raw” transcript which will be the starting point for your ebook. Now just go through that transcript and edit and make it flow better. This is a super easy way to create an ebook.
#5 – Hire a ghost writer. Even with the best attempts, you may still not be ready to create your own ebook or you may simply not have the time. If this is the case, hiring a ghost writer is a great option. You can search online marketing forums for good writers or look at Elance or Guru.com. A few things to keep in mind before hiring any writer is check out their references and previous samples of their work. Another really good tip is don’t assign the product to them right away. Instead give them a small test project before committing to the whole thing. This way you can gage the level of their work with minimum commitment. If it doesn’t work out then you’ve only spent a small amount (and potentially saved a lot) and you can move on to another writer.
With the right information and steps writing an ebook isn’t difficult. The main thing is to “just do it.” Like many things, it can seem daunting at first but starting is always the biggest hurdle. Once you start, then you know exactly what to expect and things may not seem so bad afterall.
